Approximately 55 people enjoyed the sunshine and camaraderie at our summer picnic in Tyler State Park on Sunday, July 22nd. The club provided sandwiches, water and soft drinks, and attendees helped out by bringing many, many delicious side dishes and desserts to share.
Business items were kept to a minimum, but some important information was presented. Dennis Fisher introduced the new club officers, borough and township representatives present, and committee people attending or absent. The Warren, Santarsiero, and Wallace campaigns had representatives providing updates on their activities, and Perry Warren again stressed the need to get out and vote. Efforts at recruiting Democratic and independent voters are futile if these individuals do not actually vote in support of Democratic candidates.
After the brief business portion of the meeting was concluded, the moment people were waiting for arrived: the drawings for the Cheer Basket and the 50:50 Raffle. Bill Heinemann was the winner of the Cheer Basket containing $158 worth of assorted liquors. The value of the 50:50 Raffle was $180, and the winner was John Mack. John generously donated the prize money back to the club – thanks, John!
While the event was not structured to be a fundraiser, the event finished in the black. A very generous sponsor donation from Ed Valenti, $49 in cash donations, and the $360 from the raffles pushed us over the break-even point.
Thanks to everyone who helped out with planning, set-up, cleaning, as well as the members who brought food to share! We hope to see everyone – and more – next July at the 3rd Annual Summer Picnic.
